Fair offers free and reduced-priced “bounce-back” tickets for those making monetary donations
The Food Bank is appealing to the estimated 1.5 million fairgoers for help. On Tues., June 11 and Tues., June 18, the San Diego County Fair is hosting a food drive for the Food Bank. Fairgoers can donate nonperishable food in the Food Bank’s red collection bins at fair entrances.
The Food Bank will also collect monetary donations every day of the fair. Those making monetary contributions will receive discounted or free “bounce back” tickets. For a $5 donation, fairgoers can receive a “bounce-back” ticket for $3. And for a $10 donation, fairgoers can receive a free “bounce-back” ticket.
For those donating on Tues., June 11 and Tues., June 18, red food collection bins will be located at fair entrances, and monetary donations will be accepted at information booths. Food Bank
volunteers will be located at gate entrances collecting food donations and collecting monetary donations at fair information booths.
The Food Bank needs your help because donations to plummet over the summer months. At the same time, thousands of low-income school children in San Diego County stop receiving free
school meals, and their parents are forced to seek help from the Food Bank. With an estimated 1.5 million people visiting the fair this year, the food drive could help shore up the Food Bank’s
food supply for the summer.
The Food Bank’s most-needed nonperishable food items include:
- Canned meats (tuna, ham, chicken)
- Canned vegetables
- Canned fruit
- Canned soup
- Canned beans
- Peanut Butter
Thank you for supporting the Food Bank at the 2013 San Diego County Fair!!
