September is Hunger Awareness Month. In partnership with the San Diego Hunger Coalition and dozens of San Diego County hunger-relief nonprofits, we are raising awareness about hunger in San Diego County and how it adversely affects local families in our community, including our own neighbors.

Five Facts About Hunger

1. 490,000 San Diegans face “food insecurity” every day.
2. 1 in 5, who are considered food insecure in San Diego County, are children.
3. Hunger affects people from all walks of life including: working poor families, seniors living on a fixed income, active-duty military members and their families, college students struggling to make ends meet and children living in poverty.
4. The San Diego Food Bank feeds 370,000 people every month.
5. Last year, the Food Bank distributed more than 26 million pounds of food to individuals and families in need.
