Ahmed Haque is Director of Asset Management of NRG Energy, Inc. and based in Carlsbad, California. He is responsible for commercial management of NRG’s fleet of power plants located at seven sites in Southern California and Nevada. NRG Energy, a Fortune 200 company, is the nation’s largest independent power producer, serves over 3 million retail customers, and is an industry leader in renewable power development.
Mr. Haque recently oversaw construction of the El Segundo Energy Center, a 550MW fast-start combined-cycle power plant that commenced production in 2013. He is currently developing the Carlsbad Energy Center, a 527MW peaker power plant to be completed by 2017.
Mr. Haque began his 14 year career in the energy industry in 2001 at Enron Corporation where he worked on the firm’s commodity trading platform, EnronOnline. He next held a number of leadership roles at Reliant Energy in corporate development, strategy, and plant operations. He joined NRG Energy in 2011 with P&L, contract management, local affairs, and real estate management responsibilities for the western region.
Mr. Haque holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Texas. He also serves as Chairman-Elect of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
