San Diego Food Bank to Host Emergency “Drive-Thru”
Food Distribution in East County for 1,000 Vehicles
at Grossmont Center in La Mesa at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 17
The San Diego Food Bank, in partnership with the City of La Mesa and Grossmont Center, will host a large-scale “drive-thru” emergency food distribution for low-income families and seniors affected by the COVID-19 crisis in the East County. In order to follow social distancing guidelines, the food distribution will be “contactless.”
Attendees will remain in their cars with windows rolled up, and food/toilet paper will be placed directly in the trunk by volunteers.
The distribution is first come, first served – rain or shine. The Food Bank will have enough food supplies to serve 1,000 vehicles starting at 9 a.m.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: ONLY ONE HOUSEHOLD PER CAR. THE FOOD BANK WILL PROVIDE FOOD AND SUPPLIES FOR ONE HOUSEHOLD PER VEHICLE.
For health and safety reasons, no one will be allowed to “walk up” or receive food on foot. Individuals and families who are not able to arrive by car should call the Food Bank at 1-866-350-FOOD (3663) or CLICK HERE for a list of weekly food distribution sites near their home.

ATTENDEES MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING INCOME GUIDELINES:
This will be a “self-certifying” food distribution. Attendees must verbally “self-certify” that they meet the income guidelines to receive food assistance (chart below).

FOOD ITEMS THAT WILL BE DISTRIBUTED:
Food items that will be distributed include: canned protein, canned vegetables, canned fruits, wholegrain food items, shelf-stable foods, nonperishable foods, and fresh produce including fresh fruit. Each food package will total approximately 40 pounds per family/vehicle. In addition, attendees will receive a family-pack of toilet paper, paper towels, and baby wipes.
