San Diego State University Rocks Hunger Again Collecting More Than Half-a-Million Pounds of Food During Annual Food Drive

San Diego State University students, faculty, staff and supporters excitedly gathered around the steps of the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union on Thursday, November 15 to hear how many pounds of food had been collected during the 2018 Aztecs Rock Hunger Food Drive.

The annual student-led food drive, which ran from Sept. 28 to Oct. 21 this year, brings dozens of on-campus groups together from student organizations to academic departments to fraternities and sororities every year since 2008 to raise vital funds and food for local families in need while encouraging friendly competition among those participating to drive the number of total donations. The top-performing organizations and groups are then recognized at the end of each food drive honoring their dedication to the cause and awarding those who went above and beyond to collect the most donations with a token of appreciation.10 student organizations and two businesses including Aztecs Shops LTD came out on top this year, but all of them wanted to know one thing! How much food was collected in total?

THE BIG UNVEILING

Associated Students Vice President of Financial Affairs and Aztecs Rock Hunger leader, Christian Onwuka, along with SDSU's President Dr. Adela de la Torre stood by waiting to unveil the concealed poster, which had the total amount printed on it, as our CEO, James Floros prepared to announce the big news to the eager crowd.Sounds of applause and cheers resounded throughout the student union as Floros announced that the university had collected a grand total of 590,503 pounds of food this year resulting in another record-breaking food drive!!Huge congratulations to all of the students who dedicated countless hours to raising awareness and collecting those donations!
