Hollandia Dairy and the San Diego Seals Donate More than 500 Gallons of Milk During the “Gallons for Goals” Campaign

Hollandia Dairy made a special delivery of farm-fresh milk to the San Diego Food Bank’s warehouse as a result of the company’s “Gallons for Goals” campaign with the San Diego Seals.  The donation could not have come at a better time, as the San Diego Food Bank faces record-high inflation and serves half a million people monthly, many of whom are the most vulnerable members of our community: children, seniors and low-income families.  More than 500 gallons of milk have been delivered so far to help nourish our neighbors in need throughout San Diego County.

Casey Castillo, CEO of the San Diego Food Bank, said, “Milk is a nutrient-dense food that we normally need to purchase, since we do not collect it during community food drives.  Given the rising cost of food, Hollandia Dairy’s and the San Diego Seal’s donation arrived just in time.”

How was this donation made possible?

During the “Gallons for Goals” campaign, Hollandia Dairy pledged to donate six gallons of milk for every goal scored during a San Diego Seals home game. This includes playoff home games, which are currently ongoing.

Patrick Schallberger, Chief Executive Officer of Hollandia Dairy, said, “Our partnership with the Seals just started this year.  It fits into the kind of goals that we set for ourselves as a company, where we want to support the community, families, and people being active in sports.1  A Seals game is a great family event to go to. We’re excited to partner with them to help out the community and get people active.”

Hollandia Dairy supports an active lifestyle by providing nourishing, calcium-rich milk.  Their milk goes from the cow to the table in less than 24 hours, is made through environmentally friendly processes, and is Certified Humane.

What happened during the milk delivery?

Once the Hollandia Dairy truck arrived at our warehouse, Salty, the San Diego Seals mascot and La Jolla native, helped unload the first few boxes of milk from the truck, showing off his signature dance beforehand.  Afterwards, he sat in the forklift for a photo opp with members of the San Diego Seals staff and players, the Hollandia Dairy team and Food Bank staff members to commemorate this generous donation.

This summer, as children are left without the free and reduced price school lunch programs many of them depend on, we are asking community members to join Hollandia Dairy and the San Diego Seals by doing their part to help feed hope during the summer months. You can donate nonperishable foods at one of our public donation drop-off sites listed here or make a donation online to the Food Bank.  Just $1 can make a huge difference for a child facing food insecurity – providing two meals and the opportunity to think beyond hunger.

On behalf of the San Diego Food Bank, North County Food Bank and the people we serve, thank you, Hollandia Dairy and the San Diego Seals, for your critical donation.
