San Diego Food Bank Honors Food Drive Hosts in Annual Recognition Ceremony

February is a month dedicated to showing love and appreciation for the important people in our lives, and San Diego Food Bank staff don't hold back. We show our food drive hosts some love every February by recognizing their generous efforts at our annual Food Drive Recognition Ceremony & Luncheon.

Earlier this week, San Diego Food Bank President and CEO, Jim Floros, presented more than 40 awards to top-performing organizations, businesses and schools that help us raise more than 1.4 million pounds of food through food drives every year. Categories included Community Partner Award, Innovative Partner Award, and Virtual Food Drive Award."It's important for us to recognize those who have gone above and beyond collecting food from different corners of the community - from churches to gyms to even breweries," said Kimberly Castillo, Food Procurement Coordinator for the San Diego Food Bank.

"We rely on support from the community in order to fulfill our mission each and every day. It's amazing to see and hear from the people who help make it happen."

Among the esteemed honorees were representatives from Societe Brewing in Kearny Mesa who collected an impressive 11,225 pounds of nonperishable food items from customers during the holidays, and students from Point Loma High School's JROTC program brought in a whopping 15,970 pounds of food they collected on campus! We also showed our utmost appreciation for key supporters of our major food and fundraising campaigns such as our annual School's Out, Hunger's Not Summer Food Drive and our Holiday Food Drive.

Congratulations to everyone who received recognition and thank you for choosing to support the San Diego Food Bank! Because of your efforts, we are able to continue fighting hunger and feeding hope throughout San Diego County.
