Organizers for the Stuff the Bus Food Drive hosted a news conference on Wednesday afternoon encouraging the community to support this 12th annual food drive event! The Stuff the Bus Food Drive is a collaborative effort between Metropolitan Transit System, North County Transit District, Girl Scouts San Diego, Albertsons Vons, the San Diego Food Bank and its North County Food Bank chapter. On Saturday, Dec. 14, more than 1,400 local Girl Scouts will be stationed at the entrances to every Albertsons and Vons supermarket location in San Diego County from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. collecting food donations from shoppers to help “stuff the bus.”
“I like helping my community and I like feeling like I made a difference in my community,” said Ashley, a Girl Scout representing Troop 6139.
Donations collected on Saturday will then be delivered to the Food Bank’s Miramar warehouse where military volunteers will help unload the buses filled with food.Shoppers can donate nonperishable food items including canned meats, canned vegetables, canned soups & stews, and peanut butter.Customers also have the option to donate $5 at checkout to provide a Hunger Bag to a local family in need this holiday season. The campaign runs until Dec. 14.For more information, visit SanDiegoFoodBank.org/StufftheBus.
